May 30 2007 - Family of alleged drunk driver victim files lawsuit

The family of a Wisconsin high school senior hit by an alleged drunk driver has filed a civil lawsuit against the suspect.

Kaukauna businessman Randall Ashauer is accused of striking 18-year-old Tiffany Pohl and 20-year-old Kayla Lamers from behind as they walked along a road in Kaukauna April first.

Pohl's family filed a civil suit yesterday in Outagamie County court asking for compensation of Pohl's medical expenses. They also are seeking punitive damages against Ashauer, attorneys fees and Ashauer's insurance company to reimburse Pohl's insurer.

The Pohls' attorney Carey Reed says he normally wouldn't file a lawsuit so soon, but Ashauer is not being cooperative in getting his insurance information to them.

Pohl is in a Denver facility that specializes in recovery from spinal injuries.

The 52-year-old Ashauer is charged with four felonies, including two counts of causing injury by drunken driving.
