August 4, 2009 - Two Seriously Injured in WI Bus Crash
Two people aboard a tour bus carrying adult Special Olympics
athletes were seriously injured when the vehicle rolled over Tuesday in Wisconsin, officials say.
Dodge County Sheriff Todd Nehls said the accident happened about 3:30 a.m. on a highway just east of Waupun, Wis., about 65 miles northwest of Milwaukee, local broadcasters said.
Nehls told WISC-TV, Milwaukee, that the bus driver and one passenger were taken to hospitals in serious condition, while WTMJ-TV, Milwaukee, reported six of the 20 passengers suffered minor injuries.
"We're just very lucky it wasn't more significant than it was," he told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, indicating that driver had suffered internal injuries and was taken to a hospital in Fond du Lac, Wis.
WISC-TV said the Special Olympians were golf and softball players returning to Appleton, Wis., from a tournament in Lincoln, Neb.
Investigators say they are looking into what caused the accident.
