January 7, 2010 - Four Killed in Bus-Tanker Collision in Ohio
Four people died Thursday when a tanker truck collided with a shuttle bus carrying disabled adults near Springfield, Ohio, officials said.
The crash on Interstate 70 just west of U.S. Route 40 also injured seven people, NBC4-TV, Columbus, reported.
Lt. Craig Cvetan of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the driver of the tanker truck lost control about 1 p.m. and swerved from a westbound lane of I-70 into an eastbound lane, where it hit the shuttle bus, the Springfield News-Sun reported.
The crash killed the driver and three passengers in the shuttle bus, NBC4 reported.
The shuttle bus, carrying eight clients and two staff members, had been coming from Creative Learning Workshop, which offers services for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
The center sent clients home early because of snow, program coordinator Dawn Trask said.
The driver of the tanker, which was not carrying fuel, was not injured, Cvetan said.
I-70 was closed in both directions, and traffic was being rerouted at state Route 41.
