June 01, 2009 - Man Who Beheaded Bus Passenger to Appear for Review to Determine His Fate
The man who decapitated a fellow sleeping Greyhound bus passenger is appearing before a review board Monday that will decide his future.
Vince Li was found not criminally responsible for killing Tim McLean in front of horrified passengers near Portage La Prairie, Man., last July. Now, it's up to a handful of members of Manitoba's Criminal Code review board to decide whether Li should continue to be institutionalized, given a conditional release or an absolute discharge.
Board members will hear from Li's psychiatrists and forensic mental health specialists.
The McLean family may get a chance to read a victim impact statement but only if given permission by the board.
The review board will make a ruling later in the week.
The board will make its decision public, but may not give detailed reasons for the ruling because of privacy concerns.
